NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ: Saint Peter’s Healthcare System has partnered with RoundTrip to offer on-demand and pre-scheduled rides to select patients for non-emergent medical appointments. This includes rideshare, through RoundTrip’s partnership with Lyft, medical sedans, and wheelchair/ stretcher vehicles.

“Lack of access to transportation is one of the most commonly cited reasons for patients missing appointments,” said Leslie D. Hirsch, interim CEO and president of Saint Peter’s Healthcare System. “Working with RoundTrip enables us to expand our patients’ access to care by eliminating transportation as a barrier. Coordinating rides for patients in need will help us reduce missed appointments and cancellations, improve the patient experience, and prevent unnecessary disruptions in patient care. It will also give us real-time data and analytics to further understand the needs of the population we serve.”

The service has initially launched with Saint Peter’s University Hospital’s Wound Care Center® and Hyperbaric Services in New Brunswick and Monroe Township and Saint Peter’s Sports Medicine Institute in Somerset. Saint Peter’s plans to expand to other key service areas in the healthcare system over the next year, including specific outpatient services; Radiation Oncology; Same Day Surgery; and The Diabetes and Hypertension Center, Saint Peter’s patient-centered medical home, located at Saint Peter’s University Hospital’s Family Health Center in New Brunswick .

“We look forward to working with Saint Peter’s to not only expand access for patients to get to their appointments but also to remove the operational burden of coordinating transportation,” said Mark Switaj, CEO and founder of RoundTrip. “As we continue to grow within New Jersey, we are excited and proud to be working with innovative organizations such as Saint Peter’s to create options for medical transportation, thereby addressing one of the key social determinants of health.”
